Our client, Keri, wanted to be able to park two vehicles in her garage. Her garage is barely wide enough to park both cars and still open the doors to get out, but we were up for the challenge. With our innovative garage storage solutions, we helped her not only be able to park both cars in the garage, but store some other items, as well.
The key to working with these smaller garages is utilizing every square inch of space to the fullest. There may not be much square footage available in every garage, but there’s typically plenty of vertical space that’s just going to waste. We started with an inverted Monkey Bars shelf so she could store totes and other items up high. With their alternative bracket design, the inverted shelves leave the space below open, allowing Keri’s family to still park their cars.
Keri’s husband is 6’6” tall, so we placed the shelves 7 feet off the ground. This ensured nobody would hit their heads on the shelving, but still allowed for 40 inches of storage space above the shelf.
Forty inches is enough room to stack three regular-sized (17-gallon) storage totes or two large (27-gallon) storage totes, which means that Keri’s family will have plenty of space to store holiday decorations, seasonal clothing, sports equipment, and more.
This family also wanted to be able to hang a few items on the wall, including rakes, shovels, ladders, and camp chairs. However, the garage door track was less than 24 inches away from the wall, which posed a unique challenge. This is where our ability to create custom solutions comes in handy.
Not only were we able to transition the shelves from 24 to 16 inches deep once the shelf reached the garage door track, but we also transitioned from inverted-style shelving to regular-style shelving. The regular shelves’ bars and hooks will allow the family to hang a few items off the floor while keeping them far enough back that they won’t interfere with the car doors opening.
