We recommend the 17-gallon HDX storage totes from Home Depot (or the equivalent from Lowe’s). They fit perfectly on our 24-inch shelves — it’s like they were made for each other! If you need larger totes, the 27-gallon tote also fits, but it hangs over the front edge by a few inches.

Each 4-foot section of shelving can fit three 17-gallon totes or two-and-a-half 27-gallon totes across. With the shelf installed 40 inches away from the ceiling, you can stack the 17-gallon totes three high or the 27-gallon totes two high (plus some extra room on top for smaller items).
