Transforming Tight Spaces: Chandler Garage Overhaul

On January 13, 2025, we had the opportunity to help Meridith in Chandler tackle a seriously cramped garage situation. As the saying goes, there was “10 pounds of stuff in a five-pound garage,” but with a little creativity and the right solutions, we were able to turn it into a functional and organized space.

To start, we installed two bike racks, one on either side of the garage door. These were carefully placed in a tight spot to keep Meridith’s bikes out of the way yet easy to access when needed. Next, we got several folding metal chairs and a few camp-style chairs off the floor, freeing up valuable ground space.

Meridith also needed a sturdy shelving solution against the back wall of her garage for stacking plastic storage totes. The challenge? This was also the wall where her extra freezer was located. Fortunately, the design of Monkey Bar Shelving allowed us to seamlessly install shelves that went up and over the freezer, keeping large, heavy items off the floor while maintaining easy access to her freezer and the outlet below it.

For smaller items like extra toilet paper, flats of water, car maintenance supplies, and other things that don’t hang well or belong in bins, we added a set of “Adjustable Shelves.” This solution ensured those frequently used items were close at hand, neatly organized, and, most importantly, off the floor.

One of the biggest challenges in Meridith’s garage was the tight space between her parked car and the door leading into the house. At first, she thought there was no way to use the left wall for storage without sacrificing that precious walkway. That’s where our Inverted Monkey Bar Shelving came in. By flipping the brackets upward, we left the underside of the shelving completely clear, so Meridith could still easily open car doors and walk to the house without obstruction. Meanwhile, the overhead space was put to good use for storing bulky, heavy items.

Meridith couldn’t have been more thrilled with the transformation. Not only does her garage look clean and organized, but she’s now able to park her car inside—a game-changer, especially in the Arizona heat. It was a pleasure working with her to bring this space back to life!
