Smart Storage in Mesa: Derek’s Garage Gets a Functional Makeover
When Derek moved into his new home in Mesa, his builder recommended a cabinet maker to outfit the garage. The cabinets looked great—but once Derek started unpacking, he quickly realized they weren’t going to cut it. Between camping gear, luggage, folding chairs, and golf clubs, he needed a solution that could handle the bulk and keep the floor clear.
That’s when he called us.
🎨 Desert Luna Floor Coating: Rugged Meets Refined
Before moving in, Derek wanted to protect his garage floor with a durable coating that would stay sharp for years. He chose our classic Desert Luna color mix—a blend of white, grey, and black that’s both elegant and rugged.
The black chips help camouflage tire marks, and the polyaspartic coating means the floor can be mopped clean in minutes, restoring its original shine and luster. It’s a practical choice that looks fantastic.
🧱 Monkey Bars to the Rescue
We installed our Monkey Bars shelving system, designed to handle heavy, oversized items with ease. Derek can now store:
- Storage totes, ice chests, and camping gear up top
- Folding chairs, ladders, hand trucks, golf bags, and bikes below, using the integrated bars and hooks
On the back wall—the longest wall in the garage—we installed 24″ deep regular Monkey Bars, giving Derek maximum flexibility. He can hang items underneath while loading up the top shelf with bulky gear. It’s a clean, efficient setup that keeps everything accessible—without sacrificing floor space or aesthetics.
🧩 Inverted Shelving: A Clever Fit Over Cabinets
On the left wall, space was tight. With cabinets already installed and the garage door track cutting into the area, we used our Inverted Monkey Bars style—where the brackets face upward instead of down.
This design:
- Eliminates hanging space underneath
- Creates a clean underbelly
- Allows shelves to sit directly above existing cabinets without damaging them
Once the cabinets ended, we transitioned from a 24″ deep inverted shelf to a 16″ standard Monkey Bar shelf, giving Derek the ability to hang items below and store gear above—even in the narrow space between the wall and the garage door track.
🔄 Seamless Transitions, Custom Fit
The beauty of the Monkey Bars system is its flexibility. We were able to shift styles and sizes mid-install to match the space perfectly—without compromising strength or appearance.
Derek’s garage is now fully optimized: clean, organized, and ready for real life. Whether it’s storing gear, protecting the floor, or making the most of tricky wall space, this install shows how smart design can turn a good garage into a great one.
Thinking about upgrading your own space? Let’s build something that fits your life—and your stuff.
