Arizola, Arizona, is a very small town in Pinal County. There is no recent census population information; as of 1960, it had a population of only 20 people. Arizola’s name is derived from combining Arizona and Ola Thomas, who was the daughter of one of Arizona’s earliest settlers.

Because Arizola is such a small town, there isn’t much to do in the town itself. Though nearby Casa Grande, only fifteen minutes away, has a lot to offer. If you’re interested in learning about Arizona’s history, then the Casa Grande Ruins National Monument is the perfect place for you to visit. 

The Casa Grande Ruins is a 4-story adobe structure built around 1300 A.D. It is one of the largest prehistoric standing structures ever built in North America. It was built by the Hohokam civilization that inhabited southern Arizona for over 1,000 years. This civilization was full of skilled farmers, engineers, and traders, who built advanced irrigation canals that still influence modern Arizona canals. The Casa Grande Ruins are also famous for the speculation that surrounds what happened to the Hohokam people. They mysteriously left the area in the 1400s, and no one knows why. 

While visiting the Casa Grande Ruins National Monument, you can walk a trail that loops around the ruins to see smaller structures nearby, and check out the visitor center museum to see more artifacts and learn more about the history of the ruins.
