Classic Floors in Queen Creek: Timeless Beauty in Changing Trends
As with most things in life, building and decorating trends come and go in cycles. Every few years, we see a shift in popular styles, and right now in Arizona, the dominant color palette is black, white, and grey. Take a drive through any newly developed neighborhood, and you’ll see homes decked out in these shades—it’s the prevailing trend. But not long ago, the scene looked quite different, with homes embracing warm, earthy tones like browns, creams, and tans. Back then, almost all our cabinets, shelving, and flooring fell into this natural color family. Trends eventually changed, and the neutrals of today took center stage. While I believe we’ll eventually see a return to earth tones, the current monochromatic palette seems here to stay for a while.
That said, one color of flooring stands out in our history: Rattlesnake, also known as Saddle Tan. It was, without a doubt, the most popular floor finishes we’ve ever done—outpacing other choices by a ratio of 10-to-1. Its warm, inviting tones were a perfect complement to Arizona’s desert-inspired homes and landscapes. I miss working on those floors, and interestingly, my current installer—who’s been with us for over a year—had never had the opportunity to install a Rattlesnake or Saddle Tan floor. That is, until now.
Recently, we had the pleasure of working with a customer who knew exactly what she wanted. Having loved this color in her previous home, she didn’t let current trends sway her decision. Her request? The same classic Saddle Tan floor in her new home.
As we applied the first layer of polyaspartics, watching that rich tan color spread across the floor brought back memories of how much I love this shade. When we broadcast the flakes and the full color blend came into view, my installer couldn’t help but comment, “Wow! That does look cool!” And as we applied the clear coat on top, the depth and vibrancy of the colors truly shone through, finished off with a stunning glossy sheen.
We all stepped back to admire our work, and it was a moment of pure satisfaction. Trends may rise and fall, but some choices—like the Saddle Tan floor—are classics for a reason. They’ll always have their place in the world of beautiful design.
