Taking Back the Garage: Custom Storage Solution in Gold Canyon
In February 2025, we had the pleasure of helping Richard and his wife, Lea Anne, transform their spacious garage in Gold Canyon into an organized and functional masterpiece. Like many homeowners, they had accumulated plenty of belongings and needed a thoughtful storage solution to reclaim their space. That’s where we came in.
We began the process with an in-person consultation to assess the garage and discuss their storage goals. By creating a 3D rendered model of their space, we were able to experiment with various designs and configurations. This interactive planning stage allowed Richard and Lea Anne to see exactly how each layout would look and feel in their garage. With just a few clicks, we could make changes until everything was precisely how they envisioned.
Once the design was finalized, we got to work. A project of this scale required a few visits, starting with the installation of inverted Monkey Bar shelving along both side walls and the back wall. This shelving system was mounted high to take advantage of vertical space, keeping the floor clear for important fixtures like the utility sink, refrigerator, and gun safe. In areas near the garage door tracks, we transitioned to shallower 16″ shelves for better accessibility behind the tracks—an excellent example of customizing for space.
One of the standout features of the shelving system is its strength. To demonstrate just how sturdy the inverted Monkey Bars are, our team and Richard literally hung from the shelves, proving they live up to their name!
Next, we tackled the cabinets and workbench. Richard had specific needs, including storage for a large pressure washer and other tools. To accommodate these larger items, we designed custom cabinets with 30″ depth, compared to the typical 24″ outside depth of standard options. The workbench was built to standard 24″ depth and fitted with a solid maple butcher block almost 2″ thick. We also added color-matched slatwall as a backsplash, providing an organized and visually appealing workspace. The workbench drawers featured full-extension, soft-close, undermount glides and robust metal construction by Richelieu—ensuring long-lasting quality.
On the left wall, we installed a row of pantry-style cabinets beneath the Monkey Bar shelving. One cabinet even included an interior divider, creating a dedicated space for tall items like brooms and vacuums, which thrilled Lea Anne. All the cabinets were finished in a sleek Silver Frost pattern to hide smudges, complemented by black pulls and legs for a cohesive and polished look.
The result was a beautifully unified garage that seamlessly blended functionality with style. Richard and Lea Anne were thrilled to “take back their garage” with a design tailored specifically to their needs. It was a joy to bring their vision to life!
